Planning your own wedding can be daunting and overwhelming, especially if you haven’t done it before. Some people are already busy because of a full-time job, or maybe they could still be in school. Planning a wedding is hard to juggle when most people already have their hands full. Whatever that is, please don’t be hard on yourself. Don’t worry, you’re not alone, everyone who plans their own wedding typically feels this way. Today I am going to help you avoid some stressful situations with these 5 wedding stress tips:
I don’t know about you, but I used to be a “yes” person through and through. I was the people pleaser hands down. Slowly I realized there were certain things I was saying “yes” to that didn’t serve me or my time.
When you are planning your wedding and the wedding stress kicks in this it is especially important to figure out your present priorities. What are things that absolutely need your attention? As well as, knowing what you can hold off on until the next day, week, or month. Focus on the most essential tasks.
It’s ok to say NO to the things that are not urgent or important at the moment. At the end of the day, you are in a time crunch and the last thing you need to feel is more weight on your shoulders. I encourage you to take out a piece of paper and jot down your day-to-day activities. Hour by hour what are you doing? Are there things you can cut out or sacrifice until after the wedding? I am certain that by doing this simple task you will realize little tasks and time-wasters to eliminate in order to help you be in control of this planning process.
There are a plethora of ways to get organized for your wedding planning. Nowadays you can plan by downloading PDFs, using a website, or my personal favorite, a binder. If you are like me and love the feeling of tangible paper in front of your hands, then creating a binder is the way to go. But hey, if you don’t like the sound of that then utilizing a project management tool is just as great too. Whatever you choose, the point of it all is to get yourself organized. Have multiple tabs from each category and organize them by items such as food, venue, attire, and all other things that are needed to be planned on. By staying organized you will help reduce your stress levels. You won’t search everywhere for a phone number or a list because it is all in one place and labeled.
Make sure you and your fiancé are on the same page at all times. It can be stressful or hard at times since there are things that your family members want to happen that you don’t agree about. Make sure you both know how many people you want at your wedding, what the meal options are if you are getting a band or a DJ. You and your partner need to meet halfway. Remember communication is the key, so talk it out it will make sure you and your partner are more excited for the date than freaking out over the little things!
Do things that will help you de-stress. Take a hike, go for a walk, draw a bath or even workout! Go somewhere you can breathe and relax. Do something that will make you happy and sane. Being able to get your own personal time in, helps to reduce stress levels. Making decisions while being stressed can be hard, and even put more stress on you. Stress can also affect your physical health, for example, you might be getting less sleep or restless sleep because of all the decisions you are making. This will directly affect your body since rest is a key to physical health. Self-care is a must!
Most people that plan their own wedding will get several people telling them they will help out. And that is great, however, if this isn’t a person’s priority you can get more stressed out. You don’t want to be nagging people that are close to you to do what they said they would. They will see you as a bridezilla while you’re just getting nervous because the day is coming and they haven’t finished their task. There is also the issue of them not getting the task done to exactly how you and your spouse want it done. You may ask for help by delegating tasks to your friends, fiancé, or family members. But in my biased opinion, it is best to consider hiring a wedding planner to take that wedding stress away from you!
I hope this helps you feel more involved, connected, and in control of your wedding day! Remember all of this will be worth it, at the end do of the day you will be marrying the love of your life.
