Wedding guest questions are completely normal, especially when your family and friends are excited about your big day. However, some questions can feel overwhelming when you are still planning, finalizing details, or trying to stay within your budget.
As a wedding planner, I have encountered many frequently asked questions from wedding guests. In this blog, I’ll share some of the most common wedding guest questions and polite responses you can use to handle them in a professional and respectful way.
Sometimes, couples get asked about the wedding date and location right after getting engaged. While your loved ones may simply be excited, you may not have those details ready yet.
If you are still in the early stages of planning, it is okay to let them know that you are still figuring things out.
Effective response:
“Thank you so much for asking! We are still figuring out the date and location, but once everything is finalized, we’ll make sure to share the details with you.”
Dress code questions are very common, especially if you have a specific wedding theme, color palette, or venue style. Guests usually ask because they want to dress appropriately and avoid standing out for the wrong reason.
A simple and clear response can help them understand your expectations without making them feel restricted.
Effective response:
“I’m sure you’ll look great! Our dress code is ____, and we’re going for a ____ style. You are welcome to wear something comfortable that fits the dress code. We only ask that guests avoid wearing white.”
Plus-one questions can be tricky because your guest count affects your seating plan, catering, budget, and overall wedding setup. It is important to be clear and consistent with your answer.
If you are using an RSVP form or wedding website, ask your guest to submit their request there so everything is properly documented.
Effective response:
“I really appreciate you asking. To make sure nothing gets missed, please indicate it on the RSVP card or RSVP page. This helps our planner keep everything organized, and if we are able to accommodate it, we’ll let you know.”
Some couples choose to invite children, while others prefer an adults-only wedding. Either decision is completely okay, but it should be communicated clearly and kindly.
If your wedding has limited space, budget, or a more formal setting, you can explain that the event is adults-only without overexplaining.
Effective response:
“We love your little ones, but we have decided to keep our wedding adults-only due to space and planning considerations. Thank you so much for understanding.”
Some guests may give opinions or question your wedding decisions. While their comments may not always come from a bad place, it is still important to set boundaries.
Your wedding should reflect you and your partner’s preferences, not everyone else’s opinions.
Effective response:
“Thank you so much for your input. This choice is very special to me and my fiancé, and it is something we both really wanted for our wedding day.”
Many couples create a wedding website to avoid answering the same questions over and over again. Your website can include the venue address, schedule, dress code, RSVP details, registry, parking instructions, and other important reminders.
If guests ask for details that are already available online, you can politely direct them to the wedding website.
Effective response:
“We added all the important wedding details to our wedding website. Please feel free to check it there first, and if you still have any questions, you can message us.”
Wedding planning can bring a lot of opinions from family and friends. While suggestions can sometimes be helpful, they can also feel stressful when everyone has something to say.
You can acknowledge their input while still making it clear that the final decision belongs to you and your partner.
Effective response:
“Thank you for the suggestion. We truly appreciate it, but we already decided on what feels best for us and our wedding.”
Wedding guest questions can sometimes feel stressful, but having prepared responses can make the process much easier. The key is to stay polite, clear, and consistent with your answers.
Whether guests are asking about the date, dress code, plus-ones, kids, or wedding details, remember that it is okay to set boundaries. This is your special day, and your decisions should reflect what feels right for you and your partner.
