Wedding hashtags are so cool aren’t they? But in reality do you really need them? Wedding hashtags are definitely not a must for your wedding, but it is a cute detail that could signify your love story together in a very witty and funny way. Generally, wedding hashtags are used so that your guests can add the hashtag to their post on social media and a chance for you and them to reflect back at those photos post wedding.
Do guests really use it though? Not really, I see that often times it’s the couples that use it and a few of your guests will use it. It was a great idea when it originated but now if you can come up with an awesome hashtag, consider yourself clever. For a much older crowd, maybe parents or grandparents, they most likely won’t use the hashtags or social media. Others might though!
Creating a really unique wedding hashtag can incorporate into the theme of your overall wedding, your love story, punny wordings to your name, or something that represents to you both as a couple. Below are some helpful tips to create your custom wedding hashtag.

Creating a really unique wedding hashtag can incorporate into the theme of your overall wedding, your love story, punny wordings to your name, or something that represents to you both as a couple. Below are some helpful tips to create your custom wedding hashtag.
We probably want to start with your name. Your first last name, then your partner’s first and last name. I think if you are going to be taking that last name or if you’re going to be keeping your last name, then definitely only use those names that you’re going to be wanting people to call you.
If you can somehow incorporate your wedding dates in there, then that is also really awesome. When you incorporate numbers, it’s a lot harder for someone to use the same hashtag that you’ve created. You wanna make sure that you check for misspellings, and then another one is that if you use the hashtag before each word, then you have to capitalize each word. That also kinda helps. Make sure that you check that it’s not been used before. You definitely want something that’s to you and your partner, and that if it is something very common, then there’s going to be a lot of people with the same hashtag, and then at that point, it’s not really pertaining to just you, and that event is going to be other events as well. So if it hasn’t been taken before, then that is a plus. Anyone that goes to your hashtags such as your wedding guests will only see the photos and videos that pertain and live up to your wedding day. You can have it in your bachelor or bachelorette party, or your bridal shower. Whatever it is you’re celebrating before the wedding day, you can use the hashtag as well.
When brainstorming, think about your love story, how you guys met, what are the nicknames you call each other. Can play with your last name or his/her last name, or both of your first names. Maybe even incorporate the name of your pets if you have pets together. Getting really clever and funny with this actually kinda makes or breaks the hashtag. Once it you make it funnier, your hashtags become even more unique. For example, there was a couple named “Chu” and their wedding hashtag was “I Chus You.” So instead of using the actual word “choose,” they used their last name “Chu” which is really cute.
I would say that it’s definitely not necessary to have a hashtag, but it does add a cute detail into your wedding. And if you’re really set on wanting to find a wedding hashtag, then there are so many wedding hashtag generators out there that can definitely help you. You can hire a professional. You can probably go on a local facebook group like a wedding facebook group and ask a bunch of brides and they can be clever to help you. You can also go to Weddinghashers.com and they can generate a basic hashtag for you or you can upgrade to get professional help.
There’s so many hashtags that you can use, so I would say get creative with it. But then again, don’t stress on it, because it’s not a huge deal breaker in your wedding. If you loved this article feel free to read this next blog on the Top 3 Most Expensive Wedding Costs.
